So therefore the issue of dating a man or a woman from a different tribe comes up. In the western world, this is barely an issue, but we must always remember that 'Naija la wa'.
Most Nigerian parents will say to their kids "i would not get involved", "Its your decision" etc. but on the contrary their every action shows that they are involved.
Do not get me wrong, it is important to listen to your parents, but then marriage is not an institution to enter lightly, or to enter based on the preferences of your parents. Ofcourse tangible reasons on why you should not marry someone from another tribe can be taken into consideration, but if they disagree just for the reason of tribalism then i advice that you make them see that you did not fall in love by choice and that it is important that you follow your heart.
In my opinion tribe has nothing to do with personal character. We are all the same before God, it is okay for you to marry someone from the same tribe, what is most important is that you both share similar value systems and beliefs.
I am sincerely hoping that after reading this, people will be more open minded and hopefully we will experience a change when it comes to relationships. Please you are free to voice your opinion on this issue.....thanks :) xoxo!
